Company Profile

Introduction

Nordon Hydraulics was founded by Norm Johnson on 13th October, 1972 at Geebung in Brisbane , Queensland .  Mr. Johnson continues as one of the two working directors of the Company.  After more than 30 Years in business, servicing the oil hydraulics industry as well as various Original Equipment Manufacturers, the Company still has the same strong commitment to Quality, Service and Customer Satisfaction.

The business became involved in servicing mobile equipment, which required a vast knowledge across many brands and pieces of equipment.  Predominantly, a reputation evolved around Hydraulic Cylinders at an early stage in the life of the business. The company has accumulated considerable experience as a result of its exposure to many different cylinder designs, all competing for the best combination of price and quality. The experience came from areas as humble as a simple Barber’s chair, through to mass-produced agricultural cylinders.  Further up the scale there has been mobile equipment, as in excavator cylinders and finally with the high demands of blow and injection moulding machines working twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and requiring only one (1) shut down per year. This is the standard of manufacture and service that the Company has been able to deliver to clients, such as a major Brisbane Cannery.  Another example of the Company’s ability to perform to a very high standard is the manufacture of lube oil trolleys for the Tarong Power Station.

The introduction of a Standard Range of hydraulic cylinders was a significant development in the Company’s history and provided a base upon which to expand. The preceding years of industry experience provided much of the research and development that led to the design, testing and manufacture of the Standard Range of hydraulic cylinders.  The Standard Range includes a broad selection of cylinder bore diameters, from 1.0 inch through to 8.0 inches and working pressures up to 200 Bar.  Nordon Cylinder now also specializes in the manufacture of Custom hydraulic cylinders for Original Equipment Manufacturers. It has a strong Distribution Network throughout most of Australia , providing technical as well as after-sales support.

The Company seeks to develop close relationships with hydraulic cylinder purchasers and thus influence its target markets through the research and development of new products and more cost-effective production methods.  An example of this commitment is the major acquisition of a Mazak 15MS Gantry Robot Loaded C.N.C. Machining Centre with Milling facilities and a second chuck to enable components to be finished in one machine.

Production

The Company is currently located at Brendale, on Brisbane ’s north side, and has its’ production resources assembled on a 2000 m2 floor space.  Seventy-five percent of this area is serviced by four overhead cranes that are used for unloading raw materials into storage then through various production stations, to assembly stations and then painting, packaging and despatch.  Most of the machinery used in cylinder component production is less than five years old.

 Delivery

As the Company does not utilise a “batch” production operation it is able to offer far more flexible delivery options than some of its’ competitors.  With such flexibility, the Company provides a fast delivery service without imposing penalties for “small” production runs.  This flexibility also enhances purchaser cash flow.

Special Features

§         Nordon Cylinder uses internationally available seals throughout it’s’ range.  This ensures quality performance and availability of replacement seals worldwide.

§         Nordon Cylinder marks every cylinder with a serial number for future identification if required.

§         Nordon Cylinder individually tests cylinders after assembly as a quality assurance measure.  This process also provides a short-term corrosion resistance as a result of the hydraulic oil used for testing.

§         Nordon Cylinder has a Quality System in place that has been developed as a result of more than thirty years of industry experience.
